Local residents are getting more concerned about the plans, or lack of them, to solve the increasing problems of parking in the town centre.
Current problems have been caused by the loss of part of Hines Meadow car park and the increase in residential apartments with inadequate parking.
We also need to be investing in cycling around the town and bringing back the half hourly bus service that was taken away by the Conservatives.
Also many more apartments are being planned with insufficient parking.
The council are even going to remove all the surface car parks.
John Baldwin says, “We will be lobbying the council for a new and comprehensive plan for transport in the town centre which considers all the ideas that local residents have suggested.
“Without big changes to town centre plans, Maidenhead is in danger of grinding to a halt.”
We want to hear more of your ideas on preventing the traffic chaos – please email your ideas to towncentre@maidenheadlibdems.co.uk.
Lib Dem Transport Strategy
Return to half-hourly bus services across Maidenhead which continue well into the evening.
New apartments and offices to include adequate car parking – not the current 0.5 of a space per apartment.
Redesign the new commuter car park at Stafferton Way to reduce its impact on nearby residents.
Redesign the planned new Nicholsons car park to use the bottom floors for our Town Centre vision.
Maintain some surface car parks, easy to use blue badge spaces and on-street short-term parking.
Provide secure cycle parking with an affordable bike hire scheme and segregated cycle paths.
Redesign the plans for Station Approach to include a proper bus/rail interchange.
